Fifteen things the phone rings with.

What does $99 buy?

A technician with a meter at the machine, the failed component named in ordinary words, and a repair figure written down. Approve it and the $99 is counted inside. Turn it down and $99 is all the visit costs, and the diagnosis is still yours.

You are in Gig Harbor. Are Tacoma calls priced higher?

They are not. The Narrows toll is collected eastbound, which is our direction home, so it is our cost and never a line on your invoice. North End, West End, Ruston, Fircrest, Downtown and Northeast Tacoma are priced from the Gig Harbor card.

How quickly can someone come?

A refrigerator that is warming goes to the head of the board; ring before noon and it normally gets a same-day slot. Other machines are booked within the week, frequently for the following morning. The shortest legs from the shop are Gig Harbor, Artondale, Fox Island and the West End.

Can you price it from a description?

We can say if it sounds minor or major. The figure itself comes after the meter, on the ticket — no repair here is priced from a symptom over the phone.

We are on a well. Does that matter?

A great deal. Iron and hardness coat dishwasher elements, narrow ice-maker fill valves and stain washer drums; an empty softener announces itself in the dishwasher before anywhere else. We meter the part, swap what failed, and say plainly whether the treatment is keeping pace.

The refrigerator stopped after the outage. Is it finished?

Usually not. A compressor restarting against pressure trips its overload, a board can drop a relay, and a garage or dock GFCI may have opened. The diagnostic sorts out which; most of these are a part rather than a new refrigerator.

The range is on propane and the flame burns yellow. Repair or replace?

Repair, nearly always, and a small one — an orifice, a regulator, or a conversion from natural gas left half done. A yellow, sooty flame is worth a call before it stains the cookware and the cabinet faces.

We are behind a gate at the end of a dock road.

Put the code or the directions in the form or a text and the technician has them before leaving the shop. There is no line on the invoice for a gate, a long driveway or a private road.

I rent. Who signs off?

The owner or manager, over text. You let the technician in, they get a photo and the figure, they reply yes, and the work proceeds. The invoice and its coverage term go to their email.

Are you connected to Sub-Zero, Samsung or Whirlpool?

No. We are an independent Gig Harbor shop and never claim otherwise. Every major brand gets the same treatment here: meter, one figure on the ticket, printed coverage. If the maker’s own coverage still applies to your machine, you hear that before spending a cent.

What do you not work on?

Microwaves, wine coolers, standalone ice machines, softeners and iron filters, water heaters, disposals, boat and RV galley units, restaurant equipment. The list we do take is the refrigerator and freezer, the washer, the dryer, the dishwasher, the range and wall oven and cooktop, and the ice maker inside the refrigerator — built-in and panel-ready brands included.

What if the part is not on board?

It gets ordered and we come back to finish. The return trip is on us and the approved figure stays put.

What is covered afterward?

The repair we made, for the term printed on the invoice. If the same fault returns inside that term, the follow-up visit is ours.

Will you say if it is past saving?

At the door, yes. Nobody here sells appliances, so there is no incentive to push a new one and none to repair a machine that is finished. $99 covers the visit; the advice comes with it.

How is payment handled?

Card, cash or check once the test cycle finishes. Nothing in advance, nothing for phoning. Off-site owners settle from the emailed invoice.

Warm fridge, wet floor, cold dryer: the truck is close.

$99 gets the meter on it, the figure goes on the ticket, the part is usually already on board, and the coverage term is printed on the invoice. Same card on both shores of the Narrows.
